Shunned woman enters cursed forest, discovers protector holds her mother's secrets.

  1. Bellwether brands Willa dangerous because her mother allegedly practiced witchcraft. When elders select her half-sister for the Woodman's ritual marriage, Willa dons the ceremonial cloak and walks into Elderwood alone.

  2. The forest entity greets her with courtly restraint instead of slaughter. He guards her from Hollow Folk and hints he knew her mother, implying the village's history is fabricated.

  3. Her abandoned fiancé battles through the trees to reclaim her while shadow creatures gather. Willa must untangle the Woodman's identity before either man decides her fate.

Stand-outs

  • Protagonist reclaims agency by volunteering for a lethal tradition
  • Forest guardian subverts monster tropes with courtesy and hidden knowledge
  • Maternal mystery reframes the village's entire belief system
